On Saturday, November 17 at 7:00 pm at Bailey Hall, the Cornell Wind Symphony under the direction of James Spinazzola presents 'Symphonic Dances', a program featuring a performance by the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band and a collaboration with Cornell dancers under the direction of Jumay Chu.
Continuing the celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s centennial, the program includes Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, along with other dance-related works by Tielman Susato and Roberto Sierra.
The USAF Heritage of America Band visits Cornell as part of its Veterans Day tour. For six decades, the Concert Band has educated, inspired and entertained over 1.5 million people annually, by providing music for events that support Airmen and their families, honor United States veterans, and build relationships of trust between the American people and the Air Force.
The Concert Band is comprised of over 40 professional Airman-musicians stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia who captivate audiences on regular tours throughout the East Coast with a variety of renditions of great orchestral classics, marches, Broadway hits, jazz standards, movie music, and patriotic favorites.
