August 31, 2006 (ITHACA, NY) – For two weekends in September, the Hangar Theatre’s KIDDSTUFF Season hops to a close with a fresh take on a classic tale. From September 8th through the 17th, the Hangar presents David Mamet’s The Frog Prince, with performances on Fridays at 7 pm, Saturdays at 10 am and Noon, and Sundays at 1 pm and 3 pm. This beautiful play for young audiences recounts the familiar story of a prince who refuses to relinquish his fresh-picked flowers to an old peasant woman and finds himself transformed into a frog. As the prince and his loyal friend search for the key to undo the spell, families will learn along with them what it means to love unselfishly and to give to another in need.

Featuring original music by Jennifer Bellor, The Frog Prince is made possible at the Hangar Theatre thanks to Show Sponsor Family Medicine Associates of Ithaca and KIDDSTUFF Season Sponsors Wegmans, Ithaca College, and Cayuga Radio Group, with additional support from First Niagara Bank and Hickey’s Music Center.

The Frog Prince is directed by the Hangar’s Associate Artistic Director, Wendy Dann. Dann is working with a group of four young actors all making their return to the Hangar for the production. Tim Fuchs, Travis Jones, and Ava Sullivan are alums of the Theatre Lab program, formerly known as Lab Company, Junior. Fuchs and Sullivan both appeared in last year’s production of The Laramie Project, and Jones was recently seen in Tartuffe. Katie Lane, who is making her acting debut at the Hangar, served as the Assistant Choreographer for the KIDDSTUFF production of Bugsy Malone, Jr. earlier this summer. Pete Rush, the Hangar’s Associate Artist and Education and Outreach Coordinator, serves as the Production Designer for the show.

ImageThe Frog Prince is another “7+” show in the KIDDSTUFF season. Although every child is different, this year the Hangar is helping parents by adding a KIDDSTUFF age stamp to each performance. Some of the productions feature exhilarating characters and exciting plots geared towards children ages 7 and older. These are the shows marked with the “7+” age stamp. Families should keep these AGE STAMPS in mind when deciding which shows to attend in the KIDDSTUFF series.

Additionally, the whole family can see live, professional theatre for less than the price of a movie ticket, thanks to the Hangar Theatre’s PAY WHAT YOU CAN (PWYC) program. On Saturday, September 16th at Noon, a set of seats have been reserved for “Pay What You Can” patrons to see The Frog Prince. ANY AMOUNT will be accepted as payment for these tickets. The Hangar is proud to offer PWYC performances, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience live theatre regardless of financial resources. The KIDDSTUFF Pay What You Can program is made possible by the Tompkins County Foundation.
