Rootstock, a brand new community celebration of youth musicians in the Finger Lakes, will be held at the Bernie Milton Pavilion on May 18, 2019 from noon to nine with 10-15 performances throughout the day. Last call for performer applications due April 19, 2019. Rootstock is being co-produced through a collaboration between New Roots Charter School and Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance.
Additionally, Ithaca's Youth Entrepreneurship Market (YEM) will host its annual youth market at Rootstock from 1-5pm. YEM is another community program offered by New Roots that includes four workshops where students in grades 4 through 12 learn from local entrepreneurs and coaches about how to create a business and launch it into the community.
The merger of both youth-focused community events creates an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the creativity of our region's youth this spring. All youth in our region, regardless of school district of residence, are welcome and encouraged to participate! The mission of YEM is to inspire Ithaca's future business leaders through a hands-on learning experience about entrepreneurship. Rootstock is committed to empowering the next generation of musicians in the Finger Lakes.
The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival is a mission-based 501(c)3 organization that works to nurture local artists and talent while reaching around the globe to bring world music and culture to new audiences, creating environments that inspire creativity and foster community building. For almost 30 years, the organization has served to both engage and give back to the local and regional communities in which it exists by providing financial and organizational support to impact positive change. It's all about having a grand time and generating a feeling of community, but the impact of GrassRoots expands far beyond that which occurs during the four-day festivals. Rootstock is just one example of this impact.
