ImageITHACA, NY - Pop culture, modern art and classroom technology combine for a fun and entertaining evening of dance titled "N2 Da Fu Cha Cha." This look into the future of dance will be presented at the Cornell Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts March 8-11. Tickets are on sale now by calling 607-254-ARTS.

"This dance concert is designed to appeal to a wide range of audiences - dancers, academics, scientists, and families," said Dance Concert Director Jim Self, Cornell Senior Lecturer in Dance. "It's focused on collaboration with students and faculty across the Cornell campus."

Cornell Dance 2007 opens with the original work, "Planes," choreographed by Jumay Chu (Cornell Senior Dance Lecturer) with video projections by Marilyn Rivchin (Cornell Senior Film Lecturer) based on the paintings by Amaechi Okigbo, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture. The concert continues with "Hi Pop," a salute to pop culture. Choreographed by Self and student Jon Wong, this energetic work showcases dance styles made popular over the past few decades. Mix artist Sheyen Ikeda will DJ live tunes from the pop music scene.

Interactive technology blends with dance in the evening's final work, "Open Portal." This dada/interactive game uses new classroom interactive technology -- iClickers -- to let the audience determine the ending of the dance. This piece is set to the incredible live vocal percussion of Adam Matta, the New York City beatboxer recently featured in Beat Box Bard.

"N2 Da Fu Cha Cha" features over 35 Cornell and community dancers whose styles range from modern to swing to ballroom. In addition to the live mix artist and beatboxer, original music is being composed for "Planes" by Allen Fogelsanger. Designers working on the project include: Richard MacPike (costumes), E.D. Intemann (scenic/lights), Christa Seekatz (scenic), and Kent Goetz (scenic).

Evening performances of N2 Da Fu Cha Cha are March 8-10 at 8 pm with one matinee on March 11 at 2 pm.
