Along with exhibits at the ten participating galleries, The History Center in Tompkins County, Diaspora Gallery, Fibers on the Commons and Home Green Home also have events planned that will compliment and enhance the activities taking place at the galleries.
Green Car by R. Godin at CSMA
Handwork and Shangri-La will both be holding re-opening celebrations. Handwork has moved back to its original location at 102 W. State Street after being displaced by a fire earlier this year. Handwork will be showcasing works by all of the artists that residents and visitors alike have come to love and expect from the area’s premiere cooperative gallery. Shangri-La is moving across the Commons to a new Commons storefront in Center Ithaca. Shangri-La will use the occasion to partner with The History Center in Tompkins County to exhibit special images from the History Center’s current exhibit, titled On The Road, which explores the impact that road development and transportation has had on Tompkins County for over 200 years.
The exhibits at the Community School of Music and Arts and Home Green Home will focus on sustainability. Each piece by the participating artists at CSMA is made of re-usable materials, following the trend established by the 2008 Art in the Heart of the City program, which also focuses on sustainability.

In addition to displaying some of the photos from its On The Road exhibit at Shangri-La, The History Center in Tompkins County will also be open for Gallery Night and will hold a reception of its own, featuring some of those works. Home Green Home will feature photographs with a sustainable theme by Harry Littell, while Diaspora Gallery and Fibers on the Commons will feature fine handmade craft by the artisans that have made their establishments destinations of choice for discriminating art connoisseurs.
Gallery Night attendees can also stop by the Bernie Milton Pavilion between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m., to pick up a guide to the public sculpture from the 2008 Art in the Heart Program. Tour the outdoor art while strolling between galleries.
