ImageTrick or treating, tours of haunted downtown Ithaca, a classic horror film at the historic State Theater, and a walking tour of the Ithaca city cemetery are part of the Halloween festivities scheduled in downtown Ithaca starting Saturday, October 25th.

Trick or treating begins at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 31st, and continues until 8:00 p.m. Participating merchants will have candy for children of all ages who are in costume. Parents with very small children are encouraged to take advantage of the 12:00 p.m. start time and bring their children to downtown for trick or treating during the daylight hours. The entire Ithaca Commons will be decorated with Jack O Lanterns.

Hot Cider will also be for sale on Halloween night from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bernie Milton Pavilion. Proceeds from the sales will benefit GIAC’s 50 Served Program, which provides hot meals to some 100 children in the GIAC Youth After-School Program, five evenings a week. 50 Served is designed to address the hunger needs of the many children in the Youth After School Program.

The Greater Ithaca Activities Center will hold its annual Halloween Parade at 4:00 p.m. on Halloween afternoon. This year’s parade route will take the children through downtown, where they’ll also be able to trick or treat, before returning to GIAC for a costume contest and other activities.

The History Center in Tompkins County will be conducting its highly successful “Tours of Haunted Downtown Ithaca” on Thursday, October 30th and again on Halloween night. Tours begin at the Bernie Milton Pavilion at 7:00 and 7:15 p.m. The tours scheduled for Halloween night are already sold out, so the public is encouraged to call early for Thursday night reservations.

The classic horror film “Night of the Living Dead” will be shown at 8:00 p.m. Halloween night at the State Theater of Ithaca.

The week of Halloween-related activities begins on Saturday, October 25th, with Historic Ithaca’s annual walking tour of the Ithaca City Cemetery. The tour will be guided by Cemetery Archaeologist Chris Hazel. It begins at the uphill entrance to the cemetery on Stewart Avenue. The tour begins at 11:00 a.m. and is open to the public.
