ImageOctober 22, 2008 - Ithaca College's student-run radio station, WICB-FM, was named one of the final four mtvU award nominees for "Best College Radio Station" on Monday, October 20, 2008. Preliminary online voting by region determined the four finalists out of an initial group of 20.

The award is part of the "mtvU Woodie Awards," a music event created by college students to recognize top emerging and underground artists. Online voting determines the winners and last year attracted more than 5 million students.

In order to make the finals, WICB had to inform and build a base that could compete against larger schools in the Awards' unlimited voting platform. "Getting our listeners and the community involved was our top priority," said student Station Manager Josh Giordano. "The dedication of our listeners, as well as our staff and WICB's extensive alumni network have helped propel us to the finals."

Voting continues for the finalist round until November 7, 2008.

"It is very exciting to be nominated for this award and it just confirms that all the hard work we are doing doesn't go unnoticed," said Giordano.

This is the first year the Woodies have recognized college radio. The radio stations nominated for this award are student-run and committed to bringing listeners the latest indie and emerging music before artists achieve mainstream success. The award will be presented to the winner at the 5th annual mtvU Woodie Awards on November 12, 2008 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City.
