ImageThe Kitchen Theatre Company’s Family Fare series begins this month with a storyteller who will transport you to the tropics and introduce young and old to a host of wonderful characters. Binghamton storyteller Nilsa Mariano tells cuentos folklóricos - multicultural folk tales from the Caribbean, where she was born, and from around the world.

She is the Taína Storyteller, descendent of the Taíno Indians of Puerto Rico. Accompanied by the playful rhythms of conga player David Perez, Nilsa tells stories of animals that speak Spanish, legends of Taíno gods, and adventures and misadventures of foolish boys named Juan Bobo. CUENTOS FOLKLORICOS will be at the Kitchen for three performances only - Saturday, January 24 @ 1pm & 3pm and Sunday, January 25 @ 1pm. It’s great for all ages!

Nilsa Mariano is a storyteller, short story writer, and poet. Her work appears in the book Chicken Soup for the Latino Soul and numerous literary magazines, and she has performed for children and adults throughout the Southern Tier. David Perez, salsero and congero, is a poet at heart and a founder of the Latin American Student Union at Binghamton University.
