Image Many people wonder, how does the Hangar find the talented actors who grace the stage each summer? The actors showcased on the Hangar's Niederkorn stage come from competitive auditions in Ithaca, New York City, and top acting schools throughout the country including Julliard, Brown, Yale, and NYU. This year, the Hangar's artistic team has already seen more than 500 talented actors and actresses audition for just 34 available roles in the upcoming Mainstage season-and auditions aren't over yet.

Artistic Director Peter Flynn was both impressed and inspired by the local talent that showed up at recent Ithaca auditions. "There was a turnout of diverse and skillful talent throughout the day, some of which will hopefully be featured onstage this summer," Flynn said. The Hangar will be casting an all African American team of actors/singers for the Caribbean musical Once on This Island that will hit the stage mid-July, in addition to comedies and dramas throughout the summer. "I believe the diversity of our season is one feature that attracts the acting community nationwide."

With the tightening of arts budgets nationally and the decrease in productions on Broadway and off-Broadway, more top actors are available for theatres in the Finger Lakes Region. This month, 50% more New York City actors auditioned for Hangar roles than in recent years.

Because the Hangar has access to such a wide pool of talent, audiences will once again enjoy top quality performances at the Hangar this summer.
