ImageRunning to Places, the non-profit theatre company for youth across Tompkins County, continues its second season with The Man Who Came to Dinner. Featuring young talent from across Tompkins County, this classic Kaufman & Hart comedy comes to the gorgeous theatre at Trumansburg Elementary School, February 20-22, Fridays and Saturdays at 7, Sundays at 2.

"Our season of six shows always includes a non-musical play," says Gail Belokur, Running to Places Executive Director (and Producer for this show). "We were looking for a rip-roaring comedy. This is probably Kaufman and Hart's funniest, most outrageous script."

The legendary writing team of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart (You Can't Take It With You, Of Thee I Sing) based their play about the world's worst houseguest on real-life friend and pest, Alexander Woolcott – the larger-than-life theatre critic and radio personality. In the play, the unwelcome houseguest Sheridan Whiteside has broken his hip at the home of the Stanley family, vowed to sue them, and generally plans to meddle with the lives of the people around him for his own devilish amusement.

The large ensemble cast represents Candor, Dryden, Ithaca, Lansing, Newfield, and Trumansburg, and is led by veteran young actor Nathan Hilgartner as Sheridan Whiteside, with Nola Booth as Maggie Cutler, Jenny Kenkel as Lorraine Sheldon, Will Krasnoff as Beverley Carlton, Galen Gibian as Bert Jefferson, and Kevin Hilgartner as Banjo. Belokur and Director Joey Steinhagen have collaborated with Matthew Mills (Technical Director), Eliza Vann (Scenic Design), Michael Belokur (Lighting Design), Emily Howes (Costume Design) and Peggy Carey (Stage Manager).

"Running to Places only works when we have places to run to," smiles Steinhagen. "For this show, we're thrilled to be heading to Trumansburg. The elementary school theatre is one of the more beautiful spaces in the area. It's one of those best-kept-secret places. We love that as people come to our shows, they discover wonderful surprises in each other's towns and that they are not as far apart – literally or figuratively – as they may think."
