Image‘Spring cleaning’ takes a personal bent in LOSING MYSELF, a new play with music and dance by Kitchen Theatre Artistic Director Rachel Lampert. LOSING MYSELF will be at the Kitchen Theatre for ten performances only, May 26 through June 6.

Playwright Lampert is known for her original small-cast musicals (PRECIOUS NONSENSE, TONY & THE SOPRANO, BED NO BREAKFAST, COMFORT FOOD, and THE ANGLE OF THE SUN) and also for her personal narrative pieces, including THE SOUP COMES LAST, a perennial favorite at the Kitchen Theatre.

Since her last work in this latter category, a decade has passed. Some things have slowed down and others sped up and still, lots of questions. Joined by a cast ranging in age from 11 to several decades older, Lampert looks forward and backward, sometimes at the same time. Filled with humor and insightful observations about a life in the theater, Lampert draws on her playwright and choreographer background as she stops to smell the roses. Fans of THE SOUP COMES LAST will find that LOSING MYSELF has the same spirit–with a few more wrinkles, but just as many laughs. For anyone who has enjoyed the Kitchen Theatre Company’s time in the Clinton House, LOSING MYSELF will be a walk down memory lane with a little kick in the pants.

“LOSING MYSELF is a combination plate. I go back to my roots in dance for some of it and take a look at the process of living as I now understand it. I am happily working with two young actress/dancer/singers, Erin Hilgartner and Chunmei McKernan, my child muses in recent years, and my Kitchen colleagues Steve Nunley and Lesley Greene, who have joined me in many an adventure. I always think laughter is a remedy for many ills, so I am planning a lot of it.”

All performances of LOSING MYSELF will be performed at the Kitchen Theatre`s current location - the historic Clinton House, 116 N. Cayuga St., Ithaca, NY.
