On Thursday May 27 at 7:00 PM, Amy Dickinson (“Ask Amy" nationally syndicated advice columnist, a regular on NPR's “Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!”, and author of “The Mighty Queens of Freeville”) will present one of her favorite films: Emeric Pressburger's 1945 drama 'I Know Where I'm Going'.
The film is the story of a young middle-class Englishwoman who seeks the finer things in life. To that end, she plans to marry a wealthy, middle-aged industrialist she doesn’t love. On her journey to marry, she is stranded on a nearby island, and stormy weather keeps her there, during which time she unexpectedly falls in love.
“It's a lot like my own story: career girl veers off the beaten path onto an island where she learns she is no match for the cast of eccentric locals. And she falls in love. It's Ithaca, only with bag pipes.”
The “Local Favorites” series will continue throughout the year with the following local celebrities lined up to show their favorite films:
June – Jean McPheeters (President, Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce)
July – Sim Redmond (Sim Redmond Band)
August – Rob MacKenzie (CEO of Cayuga Medical Center)
