ImageWorld Premiere of Ithaca-inspired Penelope, of Ithaca Comes to the Hangar!

July 14, 2010 (ITHACA, NY) The world premiere of Penelope, of Ithaca by New York City-based playwright Kenny Finkle, runs at the Hangar Theatre from July 21st to the 31st. Commissioned for the reopening of the renovated Hangar, this modern day love story ties together the Greek myth of Penelope and Odysseus with day-to-day life here in Ithaca, New York.

A beautiful modern romance, Penelope, of Ithaca explores the complexities of time-tested love. With her soldier husband lost at war, Penelope’s loyalty is put to the test as she struggles to reconcile her undying love for Odysseus with the uniquely human need to be loved in the here and now. The talented cast includes professional Equity actors Kelly Hutchinson (Broadway’s “Desire Under the Elms” & “Macbeth”), David Graham Jones (Lincoln Center’s “Free Man of Color”), native Ithacan, Susannah Berryman, and new talent from Hangar’s Lab Company, Brian Edelman.

Kenny Finkle is also the author of Indoor/Outdoor, which made its world premiere at the Hangar Theatre in 2004. Penelope, of Ithaca will appear at the Hangar July 21st-31st thanks to the support of Schlather, Stumbar, Parks & Salk, 1160 ESPN, and Ithaca Times.  Tickets are available at Ticket Center Ithaca (607-273-4497) and at the theatre’s box office one hour prior to curtain.
