The video, viewable in both one minute and three minute versions, is available on the Museum of the Earth’s website as well as its Facebook page, YouTube channel, and Guidestar page. It features PRI staff interacting with learners from across the United States through Museum tours, teacher workshops, school group excursions, fossil digs, and more.
“I am thrilled that we were able to produce a video of this caliber,” said Warren D. Allmon, Director, “This exciting new tool will enable us to reach a wider audience than ever before and is a great way for people to learn more about our numerous education efforts.”
As an educator of global change, the Museum of the Earth is using this video to experiment with a new type of end-of-year appeal. Instead of a traditional mailer, they are saving paper and postage by inviting the public to visit online, watch the outreach video, and make a donation to support the initiatives they have just learned about and which cannot happen without donor support. Additionally, this year, every $3 raised for the Annual Fund will be matched with $1, meaning that a $30 donation is actually $40 towards the PRI’s efforts to continue to offer quality scientific education.
Last year, donations made it possible for PRI and its Museum of the Earth to reach 2,700 school children through onsite education programs, 428 teachers through its Teacher Professional Development Initiatives, and 25,685 people through museum visitation.
The video is one of the first of its kind amongst nonprofits in the area. As such, it may help to increase donations to the PRI’s Annual Fund. Hopefully, a fresh perspective on the tangible benefits of what these donations help to accomplish will encourage patrons and locals who see it to support the Museum.
