Symphony Syracuse is bringing a sleigh full of music and holiday cheer as it presents its Holiday Pops for 2011. Seasonal classics are featured, including traditional carols, music from Tchaikovsky's well-loved holiday ballet the “Nutcracker Suite,” and other titles such as “White Christmas” and “Sleigh Ride.” With a wide selection including the customary audience sing-along to close the program, one of your special songs is sure to be on the program. Santa Claus himself is also scheduled for a visit.
Another holiday favorite, Ron Spigelman, will conduct. Spigelman is a nationally-known orchestra conductor who has worked with the Springfield Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Dallas Ballet, San Angelo Symphony, and Texas Chamber Orchestra. Spigelman graduated with honors from the Royal Academy of Music in London, and he’s performed as a soloist with British orchestras and at music festivals in Europe. He also keeps a blog about the place of classical and orchestral music in contemporary culture.
The evening’s performance will also include the talents of baritone soloist Steven Stull. Stull sings a wide range of repertory including opera, musical theatre, chamber music, and song. He has joined the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in over forty performances, including eight productions with the Syracuse Opera. Stull has also appeared with groups such as Tri-Cities Opera, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Kyrgyz State Opera, the Anchorage Festival of Music, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Jacksonville Symphony. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Oberlin College Conservatory, he is an active recitalist and collaborator in modern dance performances.
