tcpl120Tompkins County Public Library will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” during Downtown Ithaca’s Gallery Night, from 5 to 8 p.m., March 1.

Curated by Ithaca High School students-- under the direction of Maryterese Pasquel Bowen-- this exhibit features period materials as well as newly researched work by the student curators. From 5 to 6 PM, curators dressed in period fashions, will be available to discuss the exhibit. There will also be a reading by professional storyteller and high school librarian Nan Bell and a musical performance by student curator Emily Scarpulla and teacher Paul Heiland in the Ezra Cornell Reading Room adjacent to the exhibit.

March Gallery Night will also feature a presentation by Karen Allaben-Confer, “Living With Relics of the Pleistocene: Adventures of an Artist in Residence for the California Condor Reintroduction Project at Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, Arizona,” at 6 p.m. in the BorgWarner Community Room.

Allaben-Confer will discuss her contributions to the “Animalia in Art” exhibit and share stories from the two years she spent handling, observing and drawing released, captive-bred condors. The exhibits “Animalia in Art” and “Birds, Beasts and Books: Animal Illustrations in Literature,” will also be on display during this event.
