robertson13_120Tompkins County Legislator Martha Robertson raised more than $265,000 in the fourth quarter of 2013, nearly matching a second quarter total that put her in the top 10 in the nation among Democratic challengers as she builds strength in her race against vulnerable Tea Party incumbent Tom Reed in New York’s 23rd District.

“When you are running against one of only two members of the New York delegation who refused to re-open the government, who was also late paying his taxes 39 times, it’s easy to make the case that Tom Reed is part of the broken Washington politics that need to be replaced,” said Robertson.

Robertson’s campaign says it will file a report showing she has raised more than  $727,000 for the cycle and has more than $500,000 cash-on-hand. More than 3,500 citizens gave to Robertson’s campaign, with nearly 60% of the funds coming from New York State. This grassroots strength can be tapped over and over again because the average contribution of $233 is way below the allowable limit, making her campaign financially strong and sustainable. This stands in contrast to Reed, who relied on Washington PAC money to raise just under 60% of his cash last quarter.

Under Robertson’s tenure as Chair of the Tompkins County Legislature and local Industrial Development Agency, bipartisan local partnerships helped Tompkins County lead New York with the state’s lowest unemployment rate. That record of reaching across the aisle to get things done for middle-class families has broad support.

“I am proud that more than 1,800 New Yorkers gave some of their hard earned cash to try to change the most dysfunctional Congress in anyone’s memory,  and send someone with a track record of getting things done and creating jobs. That’s a positive reason our campaign is growing every day,” added Robertson.
