“We owe a great deal to our Nation's veterans, especially those who have been injured or disabled while serving our Nation," Nozzolio said. This important measure will help ensure that our service-disabled veterans will have the opportunity to start a new business or expand an existing business right here in New York State. As State Senator, I will continue my efforts to honor the dedication and sacrifices of our servicemen and women."
The 'Jobs for Heroes' legislation provides State contract preferences for a business owned by a military service-disabled veteran," Nozzolio said. "The program would be managed by the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs and would set aside 6% of all New York State contracts for businesses owned by a military service-disabled veteran. This legislation would mirror a highly successful program at the federal level and similar legislation that has been enacted in nearly forty other states.
“Just as our veterans recognized their duty to honor and serve their Nation, we too must recognize our duty as Americans to honor the profound sacrifices they made so that we can live our lives in freedom. Certainly, these individuals deserve every opportunity to be successful in business and provide for their families when they return home. I am hopeful that the State Assembly will work to adopt this important measure without delay."
