road 120Lansing may be a rural town, but it's not all Bambi and bluebirds.  Segments of the Town are dangerous, with repeated accidents marring the pastoral landscape.  What is the busiest intersection in Lansing?

The intersection of Triphammer and Waterwagon Roads have the highest annual average daily traffic (AADT) with 8079 vehicles on a 'typical' day of the year.  But a stretch of Conlon Road, between Gulf and Searles Roads, is the most dangerous in Lansing.  That stretch has the third highest crash rate (per million vehicles) of 10.91 in Tompkins County.  That data comes from an analysis of traffic data provided by New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) for 2000 through 2010.

Lansing also ranks four in the top 20 highest crash-severity intersections, with the crossing of 34B and Lansingville Road #7 in the County, followed by the intersection of Triphammer and Asbury Roads at #12 and the 34/Locke Road intersection at #17.  The Triphammer/Waterwagon Road intersection ranks #19 with 34 crashes in the data period.

The second busiest intersection in Lansing is the corner of Triphammer Road and 34B, with 4821 vehicles passing the flashing red light on a typical day.  The busiest piece of road in the Village of Lansing is a stretch of Route 13 from Brown Road to Sapsucker Woods with 8,723 vehicles traversing it on a typical day.

A segment of 34B between the county line and Fenner Road has the second highest incidents of deer crashes in Tompkins County, topped only by a segment of 13A in the Town of Ithaca between the city line and Elmira Road.  The intersection with the highest number of deer crashes in the County is in Lansing, where 34 crosses Bolton Point Road.  34B between Emmons and lansingville Roads may not have the highest crash rate, but it logged 72 deer crashes in the study decade, with the next highest number of deer crashes (24) on Triphammer Road between asbury Road and the Village of Lansing line.
