He cited a variety of reasons for his opposition to the proposal, including allowing the Iranians to keeping their nuclear centrifuges active, lifting bans on the development of ballistic missile technology and the sale of Iranian oil internationally.
"In exchange for empty promises, this agreement immediately gives the Iranians the means to develop weapons and finances their research," said Reed. "We are even giving them the means to deploy this technology beyond their borders and it will all be funded with oil sales to American consumers."
Reed called for Congress to protect the America people from the fallout of this proposal by opposing its adoption. “A nuclear Iran is unacceptable to the American people and the world. The Federal government’s top priority must be America’s safety,” he continued.
Reed is encouraging residents from around the 23rd Congressional District to contact his office with their input on this issue. "I care about the thoughts of our friends and neighbors on this deal and want to hear from them. Although I have read the proposal and see the catastrophic nature of this agreement, I want to hear from them in advance of any vote in Congress."
In addition, Reed will host town hall meetings and tele-town hall meetings in August to give residents a chance to weigh in on this and any other national issue.
