capitalbuilding 120Tom Reed backed a number economic development projects awarded funding last week through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative and Regional Economic Development Councils (REDCs).

"I care about ensuring local community economic development projects have access to the resources they need. This is a great opportunity for investments into local economic development projects that will create jobs, attract tourists and help make our region a better place to live, work and raise a family," said Reed. "I'm glad to see this success for our region and am hopeful that we can get these projects off the ground quickly."

The statement comes in the wake the announcement in Albany that applicants in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier will receive 500 million dollars in state grants over five years as part of the Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) distribution process.

Earlier this year Reed championed many of the projects competing for the funding, and contributed to the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes Regions being selected for funding eligibility. "I was glad to stand along with our community leaders in supporting projects that would help enhance our quality of life and provide great opportunities without added expenses to the taxpayer," said Reed.

In addition to the URI funding, over 83.9 million dollars was awarded to the Western Regional Economic Development Council which includes counties in the 23rd Congressional District.
