Kathy MillerWednesday was Kathy Miller's final Town Board meeting as Lansing Supervisor.  Miller received the thanks of many colleagues throughout the meeting, including Councilmen Doug Dake, Ed LaVigne and Robert Cree, Town Attorney Guy Krogh, Tompkins County Legislator Mike Sigler, and Lansing residents.

"It's been a pleasure to serve as Supervisor.  The biggest pleasure has been meeting with residents and helping where I can, if not just being an ear to listen to what was going on," Miller said.  "Sometimes you can help, and sometimes you can't.  I certainly have learned an awful lot about Lansing and its residents.  I've learned about the people who really care about Lansing.  It really has been a pleasure."

Miller started as a Councilwoman six years ago, then ran for and was elected Supervisor two years into her term.  She spoke with fondness for town employees Wednesday.  She and others also gave thanks to retiring Highway Superintendent Jack French, Highway Department employee Mark Moseley and outgoing Councilwoman Ruth Hopkins.

"I have enjoyed working with the people who work for the Town, both the employees in the administrative building and in the Highway Department," she said.  "I have always been treated with such respect by everybody here.  I looked at my role as just being in support of them.  That is what I wanted to do, to hopefully make their jobs a little easier where I could, Or just be an ear to bend and discuss things with.  It has been a real pleasure.  Jack's been at this for a long time.  Was he a teenager when he came on board?  He was, he was very young.  He's been here a long time.  I would also like to thank Mark Moseley.  I really enjoyed working with Mark on different things.  And Ruth has done a yeoman's job on things like the budget, which is her bailiwick."

Miller had special praise for Bookkeeper/Personnel Officer Sharon Bowman.  Of all the Town employees Bowman has worked the closest not just with miller, but with several past Supervisors.  This year she also served as Deputy Supervisor.

"I would like to say that with Sharon leaving, another big plus for me was getting to know Sharon on a more personal level over these six years," she said.  "We knew each other before that, but when you work with somebody every day... I can tell you that this person has more integrity and more honesty in her little finger than most people have in their entire body.  I have enjoyed every minute of it, and felt very well served.  She was a right-hand-man that can not be replaced."

"I want to thank you for the work you've done," said resident Nyberg.  "I know you've worked very hard during these years you have been Supervisor.  I've noticed it and I am sure a lot of people noticed it.  You have always been very helpful when I'd come in to ask you about something.  I know you're leaving the Town a better place than when you came here."

"I want to thank Kathy for her six years of service to the Town of Lansing," said former Councilwoman Connie Wilcox.  "I understand your husband is going to retire soon.  I want you to go forward and enjoy every moment you can with him."

"Thank you for your service," said Dake.  "I want to thank Jack French as well, and also Mark Moseley."

"I would like to thank Kathy for her service, and also Jack French and Mark Moseley," said LaVigne.  "I know their hearts were in the right place, and they tried to do the best for Lansing.  Thank you."

"I've worked with Jack for 15 or 20 years, maybe longer," said Town Attorney Guy Krogh.  I didn't work a lot with Mark, but I did work with him a few times.  Obviously I worked with Ruth and Kathy on a monthly basis.  I want to say thank you to them.  Kathy, more-so than working with you as a leader, I liked working with you as a friend.  I hope you don't disappear from the Town and you stay plugged in."

"You and I came on the board at the same time," said Councilman Robert Cree.  "It has been a pleasure.  Thank you for your service.  Jack, who is not here tonight, and one of our other colleagues, Ruth Hopkins has also given a number of years of service as well."

Miller's term as Supervisor ends December 31.
