school board2012 13 120Three candidates will run for the Lansing Board Of Education in the May 17th election.  Christine Iacobucci, currently the school board president, will run for another term.  Aaron Thompson and Susan Tabrizi are also on the ballot.  District residents will also vote on the proposed $28 million budget that day.  the polls will be open at the Lansing teacher Center from 7am through 9pm.

"We'll be reviewing the budget and all the details," Superintendent Chris Pettograsso said Monday.  "We're finalizing the budget bulletin and our goal is to mail them out by the end of next week."

School board terms are three years.  Iacobucci's position is the only full term to be filled.  The other two positions are to fill out the terms of Karen McGreevey and Tom Robinson.  Both board members have to leave their board seats early because their families are moving out of Lansing.  McGreevey's family has already moved, and Linda Pasto had been appointed to fill her seat for the rest of this school year.

"I want to thank Aaron for coming to our board meetings," Iacobucci said at Monday's meeting.  "A lot of times we get people who run for the board who have never really physically been to a board meeting."

With three candidates to fill three positions, the election is predictable, but because two of the tree positions are for partial terms the votes will count in terms of who gets to serve the longest.  The person with the most votes will fill the seat Pasto currently holds, which will be from May 18th through June 30th, 2019.  The candidate who receives the second highest number of votes will fill Iacobucci's July 1st through June 30th, 2019 term.  The remaining candidate will fill what is left of Robinson's position, from May 18th through June 30th, 2018.

Tony Lombardo and Glenn Swanson will complete their current terms in June 2017, and, Aziza Benson and Julie Boles will finish their terms in June 2018.

A budget hearing is scheduled for May 9th at the Lansing teacher Center, followed by 'Meet the Candidates Night', hosted by the Lansing High School Student Council.  The debate will be hosted by Chris Robinson.
