The House and Senate are expected to vote to begin work on a final compromise on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) later this week. The bill authorizes funding for the Department of Defense, which includes our armed services.
The bill includes a 2.1 percent pay raise for active duty military personnel, while finalizing an earlier move to block the Administration's proposed troop reductions. "Our men and women in uniform deserve our very best. This is a simple act that we can offer to thank them for their service and dedication to our country," said Reed. The bill also modernizes the methods used by the Department of Defense to acquire materials and resources making it easier for the private sector to help fulfill needs. This will ultimately drive down the cost of goods and services, saving taxpayer money.
Lastly, the bill makes significant reforms in military healthcare services by reducing bureaucratic positions and refocusing available resources on patients. The proposal also establishes accountability and performance guidelines for military healthcare leadership.
"We have to put our troops first, on and off the battlefield. After their sacrifices, we must ensure they have access to the best care, and that starts with simple reforms to eliminate bureaucratic waste and hold healthcare providers accountable," Reed concluded.
