Rayburn reported Friday he has almost $185,000 in cash on hand for the race. Only two other candidates are reporting any cash on hand for the race with the closest having less than $20,000 in the bank. Most of the candidates either filed saying they have no money for the race while two of the candidates haven’t set up campaign accounts yet. The bulk of the all the candidates cash who filed came from the candidates themselves.
“I wasn’t born into money. I had to earn every dollar laying brick over a more than 40 year career. This senate seat is so important that I’m putting my own money into this race, money I earned through sweat and hard work. I don’t take that lightly. Now that we know we’ll be on the ballot, I’ll be able to raise a significant amount more from my supporters,” said Rayburn.
The conservative republican says money is not the most important part of a race, but it’s important in getting your message out. My message is one of job growth, holding elected officials accountable through term limits and real ethics reform, and defunding of the SAFE act. He says he’s happy he’ll have the resources to get that message out to the voters of the 54th district.
“Obviously going door to door is still the best way to make yourself heard, but it’s a big district. All the pieces of our campaign are coming together and we’re prepared to campaign all the way through the primary and then the general election,” said Rayburn.
