Since assuming office in 2010, Reed has prioritized efforts to remain accessible to the people of the 23rd Congressional district. Reed has held over 200 town hall meetings and has now completed 10,052 constituent assistance cases which include over 2,000 cases for veterans and 1,200 for seniors.
"We have to listen to the people from our home. What concerns them, is what concerns us. We take those concerns to Washington and make sure their voices are heard. Helping keep government accountable is the least we can do to show them that we are listening," said Reed.
Those assisted include Alberta Smith of Randolph, NY. Ms. Smith is a recent widow who attended one of Reed's town hall meetings. She needed help adjusting the amount of money she should have been receiving from Social Security following a paperwork error. Reed's office was able to contact the Social Security office and have the adjustment made. Ms. Smith received both the back payments she was owed, and a nearly 100 percent increase in her month benefits.
Timothy Heavern is a veteran from Silver Creek who contacted Reed's offices for help with the Veterans Administration. Mr. Heavern had been waiting 14-months for back surgery. Reed's office was able to contact the Buffalo VA on his behalf to get the process moving forward. Within two weeks, Mr. Heavern had approval to receive surgery outside the VA system.
Reed has five offices throughout the 23rd Congressional District, that stand ready to assist those in need. Whether it's the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Veteran's Administration (VA) or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Reed has dedicated caseworkers on staff to help navigate the federal government. Whether its senior citizens, veterans or students, Reed's office remains committed to delivering results.
"It's great to see the positive results and the improvements to the quality of life for so many around our region. That's why we will continue to stand ready to assist those in need and make the concerns of those in our communities our top priority," said Reed.
