Candidates hoping to win retiring Senator Nozzolio's seat in Albany announced endorsements this week as the September 13th primary election draws near.  Multiple candidates from both major parties announced their candidacy soon after Senator Mike Nozzolio (R) announced he would not be running again this year.  The Republican field, which started at about a dozen candidates, has been whittled down to five.  Two Democratic candidates are running.

Canandaigua Town Supervisor Pam Helming (R) announced she has received overwhelming support from elected officials in her Ontario County as candidate for the 54th Senate District.  Last week she announced she had received an endorsement from the 25,000 member Police Conference of New York, Inc.

"Having worked with Congressional Representatives, Senators, Assembly members, and numerous local elected officials; I can assure you that Pam Helming rises to the top, and is truly a dedicated public servant.  Pam Helming will represent the people of the 54th with the highest degree of integrity, professionalism, and compassion,” said Doug Finch, Chairman, Ontario County Republican Committee, one of more than 20 officials who endorsed Helming.

Associated Builders & Contractors, Empire State Chapter and the National Federation of Independent Business today announced their support Wednesday for Floyd Rayburn (R).

"Simply put, Albany desperately needs experienced small business owners in the legislature," said Mike Durant, NFIB\NY State Director.  "Floyd understands the complex issues facing employers, because he faces these hurdles every day.  He will fight to reduce taxes and reform our onerous regulatory climate and he is the only choice in this race for small business."

Jermaine Bagnall-Graham (D) announced Tuesday that he has received an endorsement by Tompkins County Legislator Martha Robertson.  Robertson ran for the 23rd US Congressional District seat two years ago, and is a former chairwoman of the Tompkins County Legislature.

"Finding a genuine reformer who will actually bring change to Albany is not something that happens every day," Robertson said. "Albany needs a fresh face in the 51st District that will fight for good government, student-first education reform, and a cleaner environment. That's why I'm proud to endorse Jermaine Bagnall-Graham for State Senate."

Bagnall-Graham claims support from several County Democratic Committees, the NYS Women's Equality Party, Fighting for Children PAC, and various political leaders throughout the 51st State Senate District.  He is an Army Veteran, who lives in Sherburne, New York with his wife, Annette,  two school-aged children. He graduated from Binghamton University with a Master's Degree in Public Administration and SUNY Oneonta with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Rayburn and Helming are on the Republican ballot along with Brian D. Manktelow, Jon Ritter, and Sean T. Hanna.  Helming also appears on the Reform Party line.  Bagnall-Graham is challenging Town of Rose Supervisor Kenan Baldridge.  Democratic Party choices shrank May 1 when Charlie Evangelista withdrew because of objections to to his petition a hearing before the New York State Board of Elections.
