On February 20, 2019 at 11:07 AM, Investigators from the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office apprehended a suspect in the armed robbery that occurred at the Tops gas station on Triphammer Road on 02/16/19. The identity of the suspect is not being released due to age. The identity of the second suspect is still being investigated.
Sheriff Derek Osborne stated, "I would like to applaud the hard work performed by our investigators on this case".
This Tops gas station incident is not related to a robbery which occurred at Tompkins Trust on the same date.
At 11:11 AM, also February 20th, deputies responded to the Tompkins Trust Company on Triphammer Road in the Town of Lansing for a reported bank robbery. A weapon was not displayed and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
Sheriff Derek Osborne reported that the suspect was apprehended in less than an hours time, "thanks to the prompt and coordinated response of our deputies and law enforcement partners". The Sheriff's Office received assistance from the New York State Police and the Cayuga Heights Police Department.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, Maurice Marshall, age 48, of 2303 N. Triphammer Road, remains in the custody of the Sheriff's Office on the charge of Robbery 3rd, a D felony. Marshall's arraignment is pending.
