Legislature Passes Resolution Urging Federal Government to Provide Aid for States and Local Governments

A resolution urging the Federal Government to provide aid to states and local governments was filed from the floor by legislator Martha Robertson, (D-Dryden) and approved unanimously, 13-0. Legislator Robertson stated, "We're asking that the next COVID bill should include direct, unrestricted aid based on population, COVID impact, and lost revenue for municipalities due to the pandemic." The resolution reflects ongoing conversations had by the Tompkins Intergovernmental Relations Committee.

Among Other Business

• Tompkins County Administrator Jason Molino and Public Health Director Frank Kruppa shared updates on COVID-19. Molino presented details on executive orders from New York State, the Southern Tier moving into phase four of reopening, and Tompkins County operations in response to the ongoing crisis. Kruppa reported data on total positive cases related to travel over time and shared details on the work done by the Environmental Health Division of the Tompkins County Health Department. • Administrator Molino also shared that a series of decisions will need to be made in the coming weeks on further County expense reductions in response to the impacts of COVID-19. The full Legislature and the Budget, Capital, and Personnel Committee will continue to receive updates and provide guidance related to the 2020 budget and in preparation for the 2021 budget.
