The Lansing Board of Education has begun its search for a new Superintendent. The vacancy occurred when Dr. Mark Lewis recently announced his retirement. The Board has dedicated itself to finding an outstanding replacement that will be committed to the district and the outstanding education it offers.
The Board has selected the search consulting firm of Castallo and Silky from Syracuse. Dr. William Silky and Dr. Lucy Martin will be working directly with the Board as well as an interview committee. The Board met with Dr. Martin and Dr. Silky on August 21st. At that time, the Board established the interview process as well as the advertising, recruiting, and interview timeline.
The advertising and recruiting is underway with October 5th being the final day for receiving application packets. After that date, the Board will select candidates to be interviewed by members of the Board during the week of October 22nd. Second round interviews will be conducted on October 29th by a committee made up of representation from stakeholder groups. The Board will also conduct a second interview with finalists on October 29th.
The interview committee will be made up of representatives from a variety of stakeholder groups, including parents, community members, students, teachers, support staff, and administrators. Six representatives each from parents and community will be selected by lottery draw. Other committee members will be selected through the leadership of their respective groups. The High School Principal, Michelle Stone will select student representatives.
Parents and community members who would like to nominate themselves for the interview committee must submit a completed self-nomination form by 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 to Jodie Rusaw, District Clerk. The nomination form is not included in this newsletter, however, it will be available at the District Office, as well as at the main office of each school building. It is important that all members who serve on the second round interview committee understand that they must attend all meetings and interview sessions.
