"We very much regret that the terms and conditions of a proposed 5-year contract negotiated at the bargaining table were not accepted by the SSA," said Henrik N. Dullea, president of the Library Board of Trustees. "We value and appreciate the hard work and dedication of the Library's support staff.
Under the provisions of the New York State Taylor Law governing public employees, we look forward to the involvement of an impartial mediator appointed by the State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) as we continue to do all that we can to secure a mutually beneficial contract consistent with the financial resources for wages and benefits that have been allocated to the Library by the Tompkins County Legislature," Dullea added.
Approximately 30 collective bargaining sessions have been held between the Library and the SSA since September 27, 2005 in an effort to secure a new contract.
