Albany –New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio will serve as the Senate Chairman of the Joint Budget Conference Committee for Transportation during State budget negotiations.  Nozzolio also serves on the Public Protection Budget Conference Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for all aspects of the state budget.

"It is an honor to be given the important responsibility of representing the Senate as Chairman of the Transportation Budget Conference Committee," said Senator Nozzolio.  “As Chair of this important Budget Conference Committee, I will be working to provide funding for our highways, local roads and bridges which are important to the safety of New Yorkers and job development in the State.”

“It is of particular importance that Upstate New York’s transit systems receive the necessary state funding to provide quality, low-cost transportation services for the people of Upstate New York.  As Chairman, I will be fighting to restore $3 million in state funding that was cut by the Governor’s budget proposal for the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority, which serves 16 counties in our region, including Monroe, Wayne and Seneca counties.  In addition, I will work to ensure that Centro transit system, serving the Syracuse area and Cayuga County, receives the funding that is required to provide for their budgetary needs.”

“One of my top priorities is that state government remains accountable to the taxpayers of New York State and I will continue to make it a priority to protect the taxpayers from unnecessary government spending,” continued Nozzolio.

The Transportation Budget Conference Committee is responsible for determining state spending to support the transportation infrastructure of New York.  The Public Protection Budget Conference Committee is responsible for all aspects of the criminal justice and homeland security budgets for the State.

Joint Budget Conference Committees will begin public meetings this week to work towards delivering an on-time budget on April 1st.

The Transportation and Public Protection Budget Conference Committees are two of ten Budget conference committees negotiating various aspects of the State Budget.  The other committees are: Education; Higher Education; General Government/Local Assistance; Health; Mental Hygiene; Human Services/Labor; Economic Development; and Environment, Agriculture and Housing.
