ImageThe Lansing Democratic Committee announced this week its endorsement of the reelection of Congressman Michael Arcuri, 24th Congressional District, by a unanimous vote of the committee at its meeting on May 15, 2008.

Born and raised in Utica, NY, Congressman Arcuri is a former District Attorney of Oneida County.  As a Freshman Congressman, he was able to secure appointments to the powerful House Rules Committee, and to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, a committee of critical importance to his upstate New York State constituents.

"The Lansing Democratic Committee is proud to stand with Congressman Arcuri in his commitment to the rural communities of the 24th Congressional District," says Lansing Democratic Committee Acting Secretary Pat Pryor.  "Our committee members look forward to working toward his reelection in November."

Prior to the endorsement vote, the committee heard from J. Richard Messenger, a representative of Congressman Arcuri.  Mr. Messenger spoke about the Congressman's work in Washington, including his frequent visits to the 24th District and his concern for the issues facing his constituents.  Among the issues addressed by Mr. Messenger were health care, the back-log in cases before government agencies such as the VA, SSI, SSA, and Immigration, and issues surrounding sustainability and the possibility of upstate growth of the renewable energy industry.  A question and answer period followed Mr. Messenger's remarks.
