Last Saturday the Lakewatch Inn sparkled with the Red Carpet Premier of the Corporate Development Committee's (CDC) 12 annual auction and dance.  The CDC's sole purpose is to raise money to purchase technology equipment for the Lansing schools.  Earlier this month CDC President Bill Currie presented the schools with a check for $60,000, which was used to purchase six electronic white boards, a CAD controlled pneumatic cutter for the technology program, and a broadcast center for the elementary school.

This year the number of items presented in the silent auction set a record for the organization.  With 106 silent auction items and 13 live auction items, the event raised approximately $24,500 (before expenses).  This was slightly down from last year's event.

Andrew Ziemba demonstrates a Promethean Board

One of the highlights was a demonstration of a Promethean board, an electronic white board that facilitates interactive learning in the classroom.  Logical Choice Technologies Educational Consultant Andrew Ziemba demonstrated the board's many capabilities throughout the evening, showing how teachers and students can interact with prepared materials, or even live Web sites.  $26,880 of the $60,000 was used to purchase six of the boards, two for each Lansing school.

This year's theme was 'Red Carpet Premier,' and auction-goers were dressed to the nines.  The space was decorated with movie posters and paraphenalia, and a red carpet led into the hall, although Joan Rivers was nowhere to be seen.  "Bottom line, great fun had by all for a great cause," says CDC member Bobbi Wasenko.
