WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday, April 29, 2009, U.S. Rep. Michael A. Arcuri (NY-24) was named "Legislator of the Year" by the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) for his commitment to improving fire safety and crime prevention for senior citizens."I'm honored to be recognized for my efforts to protect our seniors from deadly fires," Arcuri said. "It is absolutely critical that the facilities that house our seniors are equipped with professionally installed fire prevention and detection systems - they deserve nothing less."

This year, Arcuri again sponsored H.R. 1680, the Long-Term Care Life Safety Act, which authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services to offer federal grants to promote professional installation of fire alarm detection and prevention systems in nursing homes, assisted-living residences, hospices and other long-term care facilities.
H.R. 1680 is endorsed by the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, National Fire Prevention Association, National Center for Assisted Living, Security Industry Association, and the New York Burglar and Fire Alarm Association.
