On 08/15/09, at 3:01 PM, deputies responded to the intersection of Asbury and Scofield Roads, Lansing, in regard to a one-car roll over. Upon arrival, it was learned that Francis R. Bindhammer, age 41, of 64 Burns Road, Caroline, had overturned his 1989 Toyota Tercel. The accident resulted from Bindhammer attempting to turn onto Scofield Road from Asbury Road. Bindhammer was treated at the scene by medical personnel and did not require additional medical treatment. A passenger in the vehicle received minor cuts to his face, and did not require medical treatment.
As a result of the investigation, Bindhammer was charged with DWI, as well as Failure to Use Designated Lane. He is scheduled to appear in the Lansing Town Court on 08/25/09 at 9:00 AM.
On 08/23/09 at 2:45 AM, deputies charged Derek A. Overstrom, age 41, of 1817 East Shore Drive, Lansing, with Driving While Intoxicated. The charge was a felony, due to Overstrom having a previous DWI conviction within the preceeding 10 years. Overstrom had past convictions in 2005 and 1998. He was further cited for Failure to Dim Headlights to oncoming traffic.
Overstrom was arraigned in the Town of Lansing Court, and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $2,000/$4,000 cash/bond bail. He was scheduled to reappear in the court on 08/27/09 at 7:00 PM.
