A new fire house is needed to accommodate modern fire equipment and to make sure adequate equipment is available to service fire fighting and emergency needs in the village. The Fire District has been consulting with the village on possible sites and designs.
The problem with the current site is that it is not large enough to accommodate equipment. The large trucks need enough space to maneuver, as well as storage space. Designs on the current site squeeze what is needed into an inadequate space. The Fire Department answers fire and EMS calls in the Town and Village of Lansing. This month they got 91 calls, 34 of which were fire, and 55 EMS. They have responded to 770 calls so far this year. Some of the major incidents this month included two fires on the roof of Borg Warner last weekend, plus a plane crash on Reach Run on October 7.
