“We were honored to have Major General Carla Hawley-Bowland visit Sitrin,” Sitrin CEO Rick Wison said. “We are grateful to Congressman Michael Arcuri for facilitating this meeting, and enabling us to showcase our services to the U.S. Army through Major General Hawley-Bowland.”
On October 19th, 2009, Arcuri wrote to Secretary of the Army John McHugh inviting Army personnel on a tour of Sitrin and explaining the potential the facility has to serve men and women returning from combat in recovering from physical and emotional injuries. On November 12th, 2009, Secretary McHugh replied to Arcuri stating that Major General Carla Hawley-Bowland would tour Sitrin on behalf of the Army. Major General Hawley-Bowland is also the commanding General in charge of Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and has led the medical center back to prominence after well publicized issues with care prior to her arrival. Major General Hawley-Bowland’s position also entails command over Army medical hospitals at West Point and Fort Drum.
Major General Hawley-Bowland is the first female Medical Corps General in the history of the United States Army. She took command of the US Army’s Northern Regional Medical Command/Walter Reed Army Medical Center on December 11th, 2007. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Northern Regional Medical Command is responsible for the operation of army medical treatment facilities in the northeastern United States. Prior to this assignment, MG Hawley-Bowland commanded the European Regional Medical Command in Heidelberg, Germany, and Pacific Regional Medical Command/Tripler Army Medical Center, headquartered in Honolulu, HI. In addition to this assignment, MG Hawley-Bowland assumed the responsibilities as Chief of the United States Army Medical Corps on August 29th, 2006.
