Rothenberg's move comes on the heels of Richard Hanna's strong show of support in first quarter fundraising. In only 8 weeks, Hanna raised $358,000, 91% of which came from residents of New York's 24th Congressional District. The incumbent congressman barely raised half of Hanna's total, mostly from PACs and other special interests from Washington.
Since Hanna's entry into the race, Congressman Mike Arcuri has been forced to return tainted contributions from Charlie Rangel, change his vote on healthcare, and withdraw an earmark for a fraudulent non-profit group.
After a recent interview with Richard Hanna, the Rothenberg Report's Stuart Rothenberg noted of Hanna "What did I think of Hanna? He was delightful — thoughtful, down to earth and straightforward. My “b.s. meter” didn’t go off even once. Many of the candidates I’ve interviewed over the past five years have called themselves independent and portrayed themselves as outsiders, but their answers to my questions told a different story." Citing Richard's unique character, Rothenberg said "over the past 20 years, I have interviewed thousands of candidates, but never one quite like Richard Hanna."
