Three longtime public servants were honored as they left Village of Lansing service. Deputy Mayor and Trustee Larry Fresinski, Codes Officer Ben Curtis, and former Planning Board Chairman Ned Hickey were given a sendoff with a cake and informal reception during a joint meeting of the Village Trustees and Planning Board Tuesday."Larry was interested to see how the Village runs," said Mayor Donald Hartill. "He stuck with us for a long time and has done great things. His shoes are going to be very hard to fill, and that's one of my major challenges, to find somebody who even comes close."

Fresinski said he joined the board as a spy to see how Village money was being spent, but it came to be fun. He became a Trustee in 1992, and among projects he worked on were the Village Web site, and working with Hartill to get funding for the Triphammer Road reconstruction project. He will be moving to Las Vegas this week with his wife Cathy and their five dogs.
Curtis has been the Village Code Enforcement Officer for 20 years. He worked with the Board of Trustees and the Planning Board to help develop zoning laws and regulations, and was praised by Village officials for his knowledgeable and firm enforcement of Village regulations. He also served as Chair of Technical Committee on the Southern Tier Building Officials Association.

A retired Ithaca High School teacher, Hickey joined the committee that explored the possibility of creating a Village of Lansing in the early 1970s. He has served on the Village Board of Trustees, as well as its first Planning Board, on which he served for eight years. He was asked to rejoin the Planning Board when his replacement resigned, and has remained on the board for 22 years, chairing the board for the past 20 years. He is currently serving as an alternate on the board.
It's just been great to work with professionals," Fresinski said, praising both boards. "I've never felt there was a political agenda here in the Village of Lansing."
