cadetjaynepetraeus_120Jennifer Lynn Jayne is a newly commissioned 2nd Lt. US Air Force, Nurse Corp.  She is a 2005 graduate of Lansing High School and a June 2010 graduate of Elmira College receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  During her senior year at Elmira College, Jennifer served as Wing Commander for her Air Force ROTC unit.

On April 23, 2010, she received a General David Petraeus Award for Excellence presented by General Petraeus at a recognition ceremony at Cornell University.    Jennifer will report for active duty at Lackland Air Base in San Antonio, TX in September 2010.  Jayne is the daughter of Richard Jayne of Lansing and Charmayne Jayne of Groton.

Jayne is a life long Lansing resident and attended all three Lansing schools.  She is a communicant of Grace Baptist Church and was very active in the church youth programs while growing up.  After graduating high school she began her formal education at TC3 where she earned an AAS in Nursing in 2008.  Seh passed the NCLEX-RN national licensing examination to obtain her nursing license, then earned her BSN at Elmira College.

Being a full time college student and Wing Commander for her ROTC unit was a mentally and physically taxing and demanding role.  The double duty sometimes meant daily travel from Elmira to Cornell University and back during the worst weather NYS had to offer.  Her clinical training sometimes meant additional travel to Cortland Memorial Hospital ant the VA hospital in Bath, NY.

Through this grueling and unrelenting schedule she somehow  managed to stay focused and maintained her resolve.  Jayne completed her nursing internship at Cayuga Medical Center.

Jayne says her ultimate goal as an Air Force nurse is air rescue -- you know, the 'chopper' thing.  She jokingly refers to herself as 'Major Houlihan' of Mash fame.  Jen's significant other Nathan Spiero is currently in pilot training with the USAF in Oklahoma.  The Petraeus award was a total surprise and a great honor, and the fact that he himself awarded the medal made it an experience she will never forget.
