elr_120The Lansing Town Board approved a roadway swap with Tompkins County Wednesday that will impact about 5.17 miles of roadway within the Town of Lansing. The agreement, which was signed by the Town and County Highway Superintendents on September 1, has been under consideration for the past several months, and becomes official when both the Town Board and  County Legislature pass resolutions to accept it.

1.22 miles of East Lansing Road, .76 miles of Buck Road, and .79 miles of Milliken Station Road will become town roads.  About 1.03 miles of Farrel Road (from Warren Road to the Town Line) will become County Road 108, and approximately 1.37 miles of North Lansing School Road (which spans between Route 24 and Van Ostrand Road) will now become County Road 100.

Lansing Highway Superintendent Jack French says that the swap makes sense in terms of the routes the respective highway departments use in maintaining their roads.  Roadways in Lansing are owned and maintained by the Town, County, and State with each jurisdiction responsible for road maintenance.  The swap will not impact snow plowing, because the Town Highway Department plows County roads within Lansing borders.

The resolution was passed 4/0.
