Initial interviews with witnesses have been completed and it is alleged that Shauger was a front seat passenger of a motor vehicle that was traveling North on East Shore Drive when he voluntarily exited the vehicle while it was moving. The New York State Police, the Tompkins County Medical Examiner and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office are assisting the Sheriff's Office.
On Tuesday June 14, 2011 at 3:00PM, Deputies charged Jessica Griffith, age 30, of Lansing with Leaving the Scene of an incident of a fatality without reporting, a class D felony. The arrest stems from an investigation from Saturday June 11th, after the Tompkins County 911 Center received a report of an unresponsive male lying in the roadway on Eastshore Drive. It is alleged that Griffith was the operator of a 2002 Dodge Caravan that was traveling north on Eastshore Drive, and Shauger was the only other occupant of the vehicle.
Griffith was taken before the Town of Lansing Court where she was arraigned before Judge Howell. Griffin was released on her own recognizance and is schedule to appear in the Town of Lansing Court on 06/20/2011 for a preliminary hearing.
