albany2_120State Senator Mike Nozzolio announced Tuesday that the 2012-13 State Budget, a budget that he worked closely with Governor Cuomo to enact, will invest over $32.4 million in nearly 20 infrastructure improvement projects across the Finger Lakes Region that will repair over 220 miles of roads and 10 bridges and create thousands of jobs. The funding is part of the statewide NY Works program, which was designed to reinvent state economic development by coordinating efforts to put New Yorkers back to work rebuilding New York state's infrastructure.

"The budget that was adopted last week was achieved by working in close partnership with my colleagues in the State Senate and Governor Cuomo to promote regional, long-term job development," said Nozzolio. "The NY Works program is a critically important component of this budget because it supports both our efforts to create local jobs and to ensure that transportation and infrastructure in Upstate New York receive a fair and equitable amount of State funding. It was a pleasure to work with the Governor to allocate the funding necessary for a program that will strengthen communities throughout the Finger Lakes Region."

NY Works will develop and implement a coordinated, efficient infrastructure plan across the State’s 45 agencies and authorities. NY Works will establish a task force, made up of leaders in finance, labor, planning and transportation to identify and recommend financing options for projects as well as methods to accelerate the construction of critical infrastructure projects. The Task Force will help create tens of thousands of jobs by coordinating comprehensive capital plans, overseeing all investment in infrastructure projects, and accelerating hundreds of critical projects across the State.

All NY Works projects will be posted on the web with real-time updates so that New Yorkers can track the progress of projects in their community. For a complete list of the projects in the Finger Lakes Region, visit the Governor’’s website here.

"While cutting overall spending and avoiding tax increases for the second year in a row, this state budget makes innovative investments that will drive economic development in our communities. The NY Works initiative is an investment that will create jobs and improve the quality of life all across the Finger Lakes Region. My special thanks to Governor Cuomo for his leadership in developing this transformative program," Nozzolio said.
