library_sketch120Voters elected three Trustees and agreed to increase the Lansing Community Library tax levy by $8,000 Wednesday.   Matthew Montague, Ami Walter Stallone, and Ron Ostman were elected to the board.

"We were delighted to have over 200 people show up to vote Wednesday.  We made a real effort to get the word out in the Ithaca Journal, The Shopper, online through the Lansing Star, the LCL web site and Facebook pages, and through postings at area businesses; this kind of turnout shows that our community really cares about our local library," says LCL Board of Trustees Secretary Emily Franco. "The library venue gave community members the chance to see the services they were voting for and we even signed up some new cardholders!  We would like to thank our Lansing community for your support of this vital resource."

Montague was the only incumbent on the ballot.  The other two seats are being vacated by Dale Baker and Marce Bean.  Montague received 136 votes, Stallone 135, Ostman 122, and Tania Lawrence 92.

The Library tax levy will be raised from $105,310 to $113,310.  Trustees say that the rise will help pay for growing costs.  It is the first tax levy rise Trustees have asked for since the library was chartered in 2008.  Last year's Library tax rate was $0.123138 per $1,000 of property value.

"We had a terrific group of highly qualified Trustee candidates who bring some really amazing skills to the Trustee position," Franco says.  "While there were only three Trustee vacancies for this election, we have learned that a fourth Trustee will be stepping down shortly so at this time we plan to take advantage of our great candidate pool and appoint our fourth candidate in May."
