“Sexual crimes against children are among the most heinous in our society. As Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, I have fought hard for measures to protect our communities from dangerous sexual predators who prey on children and for increased support to the victims of this terrible abuse," Nozollio said. "This important legislation will send a clear message that there will be zero tolerance for any act of victimization against children in our State.”
This measure addresses a State Court of Appeals ruling earlier this month that stated an individual must print, download or save computer files in order to be guilty of possessing child pornography. The legislation amends current law to include accessing these images with intent to view as part of this crime, conforming State law with Federal regulations against viewing child pornography.
“It is critical that New York State maintain the highest possible standards when it comes to protecting our children and I applaud my colleagues in the State Senate for acting quickly on this measure,” said Nozzolio. “I urge the members of the State Assembly to adopt this important change in the law as soon as possible.”
