"Tragically, John Lennon’s positive message and his life were fatally ended by Mark David Chapman," Nozzolio said. "It is the responsibility of the New York State Parole Board to ensure that public safety is protected from the release of dangerous criminals like Mark David Chapman."
“Chapman’s actions and lack of remorse clearly demonstrate that his case does not warrant leniency or compassion of any kind,” said Nozzolio. “As Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, it is my firm and unequivocal belief that he should remain in prison without any consideration of parole.”
“John Lennon’s contributions to the world of music continue today and have influenced the lives of millions of people. Mark David Chapman’s actions robbed the world of one of the most influential musicians in history,” said Nozzolio.
As Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, Nozzolio has been outspoken in his opposition to the release of violent felons into our streets and communities. Nozzolio has appeared on the Fox News Channel documentary “The Last Days of John Lennon” to discuss his support for the eliminating the so-called “Family-Reunion” conjugal visit program in New York. The special report addressed the incarceration of Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, and the public outcry over Chapman’s participation in the so called Family Reunion Program.
Nozzolio, who has aggressively advocated against Chapman’s previous bids for parole, blasted this state funded program that allows Chapman and other violent felons to receive conjugal visits at taxpayers’ expense.
