The Public Protection Budget Conference Committee is responsible for reviewing all aspects of the criminal justice budget, and budgets for correctional services, military and naval affairs, the state police, the judiciary and homeland security.
"It is an honor to be given the important responsibility of Senate Chairman for the Public Protection Budget Conference Committee," said Nozzolio. “One of my top priorities is to ensure the protection of our citizens and I will work directly with the Assembly and Governor to guarantee our state fulfills its responsibility to protect our families, homes and communities.”
“As Chairman of Public Protection, I will continue to fight to support our State Police, Correctional Services, and all other aspects of our criminal justice system and homeland security,” continued Nozzolio. “Additionally, I will fight to make sure State government, including the judiciary, remains accountable to the taxpayers of New York State, and there is no better way to do that than to deliver an on-time, fiscally responsible State budget that builds on the many successes we achieved over the last few years.”
Nozzolio has also been appointed to the Transportation, Environment, Agriculture and Housing Joint Conference Committee. Nozzolio was recently named Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee and also serves on the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for all aspects of the State budget.
Joint Budget Conference Committees began public meetings this week to work towards delivering an on-time budget. The Public Protection Committee hearing will take place on Wednesday, February 6 at 10:00am in Hearing Room B of the Legislative Office Building.
The Public Protection and Transportation, Environment, Agriculture and Housing Budget Conference Committees are two of ten Budget conference committees negotiating various aspects of the State Budget. The other committees are: Education; Higher Education & Arts; General Government/Local Assistance; Health; Mental Hygiene; Human Services; Taxes/Economic Development; Transportation, Environment, Agriculture & Housing and SuperStorm Sandy.
