"Today is a great day," said mayor Donald Hartill. "We actually put a shovel in the ground to start the construction of a new Village office. We've been trying to do this for a long time. We started the process close to three years ago."
The new building will address health and safety problems, provide much needed storage space especially in the Codes Office, and house all Village employees in one facility. Pump noise and vibration has created problems for employees and Village officials when working and meeting in old building.
"One of the main reasons we're doing this is that (attached to the current Village Office) next door are the big pumps that supply water to two thirds of the population around here," Hartill said. "Those pumps were relpaced with bigger pumps. We went from a tolerable situation to a situation where Village Clerk Jodi Dake) gets a vibra-massage every day when they come on at 4:30 or 5 o'clock."
Village officials have been working on the Village Hall project for three years. The project went out for bid at the end of last year, but none of the bids were accepted. After a second round bids were accepted last month.
"My other major project as Mayor was getting Triphammer Road rebuilt," Hartill said. "That took ten years. I think this one's going to be shorter. Vince assures me it will be closed in by the time the snow flies, and this time next year we'll be enjoying our brand new offices that we're all looking forward to."
The existing building will be used primarily for records storage, with the old meeting room opened up for more community meetings.
