ITHACA - Florence H. Prybyl, of Ithaca, NY, homemaker and world traveler, passed away in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, on May 23, of complications after open heart surgery, her second in six months.
The former Florence H. Kolber was born and raised in Buffalo. She attended Buffalo State College until marrying Richard Prybyl in 1949. Florence and Richard were faithfully married for 56 years. Over the course of their marriage, they lived in Western New York, the Boston, MA area, Williamsport, PA, Oxnard, California, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and most recently Ithaca.
Together with her husband, her travels took Florence through Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Italy, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Romania, Canada, Mexico, the Amazon region of Brazil, Costa Rica, Bermuda, a number of Caribbean islands, North Africa, and a good part of the United States including Hawaii. On a recent cruise through the Amazon, Florence brought and distributed gifts to the children of the small jungle village of Boca da Valeria.
Florence is survived by her husband, Richard P.; daughter, Lynn (Alfred) Filippini of Medford, NJ; sons, Richard T. (Donna) of Ithaca, Dr. J Mark (Eileen) of Mars, PA. Florence was the proud grandmother of eight granddaughters as well.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mark's R. C. Church, 401 Woodward Avenue, Buffalo, NY. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore, NY. The family will receive friends at the Dengler-Roberts Funeral Home, 3000 Delaware Avenue, Kenmore, NY, on Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
